It's outdoor range time, are you ready?
So, you want to go to the outdoor shooting range. Before you go, there are some things you should consider.
When planning a trip to your local outdoor range, there are a few things to consider. This is not an all-inclusive list, but as you increase your skill and experience, you will add to it.
Plan Your Training. What do you want to work on? The availability of opportunities is much greater. (From the holster, movement, obstacles, etc.) Consider the appropriate gear. Prepare with all your gear. Ears, eyes, notepad, timer, blanks, targets, and ammo, oh yes, your sidearm.
One truly important aspect is to check the weather forecast. You should dress accordingly. Hat, sunglasses, layers, if need be, proper footwear, and raingear (just in case)
Always bring a water source of some type. Cold or hot weather can impact and influence you.
Depending on your location, consider the bugs, ticks, wasps, bees, horseflies, etc. Bring the appropriate bug spray.
Most ranges will have a First-Aid kit but safety tells me to bring my own, so I am familiar with it. Some items to consider if you can get them: anti-venom, your own allergic reaction kit, and know the local emergency number. (** NOTE” Outdoor ranges are located in the outskirts and are closer to another jurisdiction, so ask your range what the procedure is for contacting emergency support.
As you close out your range day, clean up. Trash cans will be available. Ensure you have all your gear. Clean your hands with hand sanitizer. Make one last pass of the area.
